Keke Palmer: From Akeelah to Nope

Keke Palmer grew up in Illinois and now carries a Jordan Peele film — "Nope." Born in 1993, she started early: "Akeelah and the Bee" made her a name as a kid, and "Just Keke" made her the youngest talk show host on television.

The grown-up roles came without a stumble. She starred in the VH1 biopic "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story," made her Broadway debut in "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella," and kept working across "Scream Queens," "Berlin Station," and the Emmy-winning "Turnt Up with the Taylors."

She sings too. Two extended plays, "Lauren" and "Virgo Tendencies," sit alongside the acting, and her co-hosting run on "Strahan, Sara & Keke" earned her a Daytime Emmy Award nomination. Palmer has never stayed in one lane.

Palmer talks openly about self-expression and her place in the LGBTQ community. At an LGBT Center LA fundraiser, she spoke candidly about her sexuality — no press release, no hedging, just the plain truth of who she is. During Black History Month, that openness matters as much as the résumé. Representation is easy to praise and harder to live. Palmer lives it.

The résumé runs from a childhood spelling-bee drama to a Jordan Peele thriller, with music, Broadway, and daytime TV in between. Talent and work got her the roles. The honesty is her own — and for Black queer audiences especially, that is the part that sticks.
